My 2.35 hans dampf 26er was taller overall than my 2.3 purgatory in 27.5. The only way you can get a significant "mullet" setup is to run a 2.1 26er and a >2.4 27.5 up front. Then you have poor rear traction and a wonky bike anyway. Theres no benefit or reason to use a 26 wheel. Its inconsequentially smaller, rim choice sucks, tire choice sucks.
While it may be possible to convert a 26 frame to accommodate 27.5 wheels, it is crucial to assess the feasibility and potential consequences before proceeding with the conversion.
If you're doing a 29er fork on a frame intended for 27.5, and you run a 29" wheel, it will slow the steering down, raise the BB, and slacken the head tube. If you're running a 27.5 wheel in a 29er fork, regardless of intended rear wheel size, it will make the handling slower and sloppy. In some ways it could depend on the frame, though.
Question comes up a lot…simple answer: go for it. FWIW I’ve run Pike 27.5 on my Remedy 26″ for past year with no probs
If you where to go the other route, and put your 26" wheels on a frame meant 27.5" it would lower your bottom bracket 3/4" causing you to more than likely smash it a lot. If you where to also swap
A 26 x 1.95 is only 25.5 inches in diameter, but a 26 x 2.4 is around 26.3 - 26.5 inches in diameter, essentially one inch higher, which makes a big difference rolling over stuff. Ride your 2.4's offroad; if you want to do easy offroad stuff/pavement, make sure to measure your fork arch clearance and back triangle before buying a new 29
